Golf Architecture magazine has its origins back in 1997 when the Society published its inaugural Journal of the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects, edited by Neil Crafter and Paul Mogford who still remain as the editors today.

In the first issue then President Michael Wolveridge, in his letter from the President, conveyed the Society's charter for the Journal as such; 'It is the intention of the Society to publish annually a Journal which reflect the history and the progress of golf in Australia seen through the perspective of its golf course designers and builders'..'It is the intention of the Society through this Journal to continue to provide an effective and informed commentary on a broad range of issues concerning the golf industry, especially promoting the environmental and social benefits of golf courses within the Community' .

The second issue of the Journal continued its environmental theme and marked Michael standing down as President after six years of dedicated service. With the mantle of President falling to Neil Crafter, the third issue of the Journal also saw change as the Society joined forces with Golf Magazine to increase distribution via the newsstand. In all 25000 copies were distributed in that year. Issues 3 and 4 saw a continued diversification of content as the history of our profession also gain prominence.

In 2001 The Journal underwent a change of format and name becoming Golf Architecture magazine. Having begun with a modest 28 pages of content in Issue 1 the page count has steadily increased to top 80 pages today.

With prominent authors such as Geoff Shackelford, Dr. Michael Hurdzan and our own Peter Thomson contributing benchmark articles on a regular basis Golf Architecture Magazine is considered by many to be the leading Golf Course Architecture Journal -worldwide. The magazine is available by mail order subscription and has readers in over 12 countries, including USA , UK , Canada , New Zealand , Japan , Spain , Norway , Thailand , Switzerland , South Africa and Sweden .
