Michael Coate Golf Design

Michael Coate graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the University of Western Australia in 1973. Following several years in civil engineering construction in Australia and the United Kingdom, he was engaged as a consultant designer with Melbourne based golf course architects Thomson Wolveridge & Associates with an involvement in all aspects of golf course design and construction.

After participating in numerous national and international projects on behalf of Thomson Wolveridge, in 1984 Michael branched out to undertake golf course design in his own right. In 1989 he formed Michael Coate and Associates (now Michael Coate Golf Design) and has since designed and constructed golf courses in Australia, China and throughout the South East Asian region.

The Araluen Country Club and The Golf Club at Kennedy Bay are two of his designs which have become highly regarded internationally. Kennedy Bay in particular is a true British style links course and is already regarded as one of the four finest links courses in Australia, having been rated at No. 10 in Australia's Top 100 Courses by Australian Golf Digest.

Michael was elected to membership of the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects in 1992.
